Finding a way into the German media landscape isn’t easy – and if you don’t speak the language, things become even harder. The “Yalla Media Akademie” is a session of intercultural workshops, organised by Eed be Eed and Jugendpresse Deutschland (Youth Press Germany), that are aiming to support young junior journalists. Yalla Media Akademie is funded by Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung
Yalla Media Akademie 2017
The first Yalla Media Akademie took place from 20th to 26 th September 2017. Within one week the 22 participants (Arabic and German) aged between 16 and 27 years got to learn about the basics of journalism as well as about the workings of the German media landscape. The seminar was framed by workshops led by professional journalists from different media (taz, Der Freitag, Neue Deutsche Medienmacher). The participants all wrote their own articles that were later published in a two- language edition of “politikorange”, the Jugendpresse’s magazine. The first workshop was followed by a second one in December with 17 participants.
