ABOUT US

Eed be Eed (Arabic for “Hand in Hand”) was founded as an online-media-platform providing journalistic content in Arabic for newcomers and refugees. More projects have been established over the course of the last years, among them a monthly printed magazine, workshops for young people who are interested in arts and journalism (both Arabic-speaking and non-Arabic-speaking) as well as cultural events.

PROJECTS

Eed Be Eed Magazine

Eed be Eed started as an Online-Multimedia-Platform in 2016 providing journalistic content, both text and video, to an Arabic-speaking audience. Since December 2017 there is an additional printed edition of the magazine that is distributed for free in shelters and Arabic art and culture centres in Berlin. You can find the online magazine

Yalla Media Akademie Workshop

Finding a way into the German media landscape isn’t easy – and if you don’t speak the language, things become even harder. The “Yalla Media Akademie” is a session of intercultural workshops, organised by Eed be Eed and Jugendpresse Deutschland (Youth Press  Germany), that are aiming to support young junior journalists. Yalla Media Akademie is funded by Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung

Yalla Media Akademie 2017

The first Yalla Media Akademie took place from 20th to 26 th September 2017. Within one week the 22 participants (Arabic and German) aged between 16 and 27 years got to learn about the basics of journalism as well as about the workings of the German media landscape. The seminar was framed by workshops led by professional journalists from different media (taz, Der Freitag, Neue Deutsche Medienmacher). The participants all wrote their own articles that were later published in a two- language edition of “politikorange”, the Jugendpresse’s magazine. The first workshop was followed by a second one in December with 17 participants.

Yalla Media Akademie 2018

The Yalla Media Akademie that took place from 17 th to 19 th June 2018 in Essen put a focus on the topic of Fake News. The participants of the Berlin workshop taking place from 6 th to 13 th August worked on the topic of racism. A two-language-edition (German and Arabic) of the magazine “politikorange” was produced by the participants of each workshop. From 4 th to 7 th October there will be yet another edition of Yalla Media Akademie taking place during the Jugendmedientage in Bremen. Applications will open soon.

Action! Camps 2018

The Action! Camps took place in July 2018. In the course of multiple workshops the young participants learned to draft, film and edit their own short films. The Workshops were led by Ousama Alhafiri, Majd Hafiry and Hannah Stockmann. The short films were presented at the exhibition “The Human Beam” from 9 th to 12 th August 2018.

Arabic Arts & Culture Festival

The first Arabic Arts & Culture Festival organised by Eed be Eed took place in September 2017. What initially was meant to be a one-time-event transformed into the idea of a yearly festival. The aim of these festivals is to provide a platform to Berlin-based Arabic artists and to build a bridge between locals and newcomers who share a common interest in arts and culture.
